History
Our first harvest from the Meach Cove site was in the fall of 2002. Originally this planting included the Austrian vinifera, Zweigelt, a red wine grape. Ultimately, our VT winters proved too harsh for this vine and we replaced it with more Vidal Blanc in 2010.
Vineyard Specifics
Our Meach Cove Vineyard is the least sloping of all our sites. Its constant N and S prevailing winds and its very close proximity to Lake Champlain provide air movement, frost protection, and rapid drying after rain events. Rows are oriented N-S for maximum sunlight interception and even ripening. The soil underlying our Meach Cove Vineyard is a deep, stony loam in the Georgia series. It originated in glacial till derived from limestone and calcareous shale.
