NuMondo Vineyard
Our most recent site is located on Route 7 in Charlotte on a 61 acre section of prime farmland at the foot of Mount Philo and with stunning views of the Adirondacks across the lake. In collaboration with Sam Coppola, the owner of this site as well as NuMondo Vineyards in Quebec, the grapes on this field will be planted, managed and grown by us for use at our Shelburne Vineyard winery. We broke ground in June 2010 with our inaugural planting of just over 4 acres of Northern Varietals and will eventually total over 10 acres of grapes.

Vineyard Specifics:
Our NuMondo Vineyard is situated on sloping land facing predominantly to the W with a slight northern aspect as well. Like our other sites, N-S row orientation allows maximum sunlight exposure and lets the prevailing N and S winds to help keep our vines dry. Soils underlying the vines are of the Stockbridge, Nellis, and Hinesburg series. All these types are deep, well-drained sandy loams. Stockbridge and Nellis soils have a higher natural fertility than the Hinesburg. A true testament to the importance of site specifics, areas of this acreage have underground springs, leading to a much more saturated soil profile than the soil series would normally have. As a result, tile drainage spaced at forty-foot intervals was installed on about half of the total vineyard acreage.
