The Philosophy of Civic Engagement, a talk around the bar

  • Shelburne Vineyard 6308 Shelburne Road Shelburne, VT, 05482 USA (map)

Public Philosophy Week: The Philosophy of Civic Engagement

Frustration and discontent with national politics has grown; volunteerism and engagement in local politics have decreased.  Why?  What is the value and purpose of civic engagement and involvement with local politics and community engagement generally?  Why should we stay engaged?  Is it worth the time?  Is it a "duty", a "hobby", a part of a good life, rational self-interest, etc.?

Join Mike Ashooh, a philosophy teacher at UVM and Chair of the Shelburne Selectboard for a casual conversation about the value, purpose and meaning of civic engagement while drinking wine at the Shelburne Vineyard.

This event is part of Public Philosophy Week.

No tickets or reservations needed.
